Dear Family,

Things are going great here in Astoria. Elder Stevens and I had a very good week. We had quite a few members come out with us so it has been nice getting to know them. We have some pretty solid ones out here. We were able to have an awesome lesson with Beca. We just read Alma 32 an talked about faith with her. She came to church as well and stayed all three meetings and loved it! We also got a pretty sweet referral. It is an older couple with a son in his 20's. The son is going in for major surgery this week and some members mentioned giving him a blessing. So they called us up and we went over and gave him a blessing. After we were done, his dad wanted one, too. They are such a nice family and we will be sure to keep in contact with them. We also met with another one of our progressing investigators named Deven. He is 17 and dating a member of our ward. I was actually really impressed with his maturity and his testimony. His mom is throwing up some red flags, so hopefully we can work that out. The girl that he is dating had been to the Badger Creek outdoor center a few times so that was a cool connection.

So here is another fun fact about Astoria. I guess a movie named The Goonies was filmed here. I am pretty ashamed to say that I have not seen it. Or even heard of it1 haha. I guess it is a pretty popular movie. We have seen the main house that it was filmed at and everything. So I guess if you want to know what Astoria is like, just watch The goonies.

In answer to your question, mom, I think the reason teenagers are sent out is because it takes a lot of humility to be taught the gospel by them. If somebody is not humble enough to be taught by teenagers, then they are not humble enough to follow Christ. And anybody would be surprised at how much gospel knowledge missionaries have.

We had a zone conference this week. It was so good. President Taylor is the man! I guess the new mission president and wife were just called for this mission. They will take over July 1st so I will get to meet them. They are from Canada. This zone conference was very Christmas based and I think that's why I loved it. President Taylor made an interesting point. He said that every year we make a big deal bout focusing on the true meaning of Christmas and not getting caught up in all the commercialism and shopping and Santa Claus and everything else. But he made the point that it is actually a good thing. It sets this time of year a part from everything else. Even people without a faith in Christ get excited about Christmas. We don't sing "It's the most wonderful time of the year" during any other holiday. There is a certain feeling at Christmas and part of that comes from the commercialism. I thought it was a good point.

I can't wait to skype with everybody on Christmas! It was most likely be in the morning around 8:30-9:00 pacific time. I will send you an email on Wednesday or Thursday to confirm and we will work it out. I hope everybody has a great week and I love you all so much!

Love,
Elder Reiley
