Dear Family,
Good
questions about the living situation! Everything is all good here.
Brother Stamps doesn't care about walking on his kitchen floor in our
socks (from Marilyn.. one time
he lived with members that didn't let them walk in their socks on the
floor because the oils from their feet somehow messed up the floor???) He
would much rather give me the history of how Ridge filed started and
how much he loves his neighbors haha. My sheets are washed every other
week. My towel is still holding up and I have a back up so I am good
there. probably 3/4 of the addresses in my area are in Ridgefield. The
other 1/4 is in Vancouver. I cover a lot of the northern part of
Vancouver. And yes it is the Vancouver West stake.
What
an amazing story about Kristen! It is always awkward for missionaries
in those situations. There was a man there at first we sat down to wait
for our car and I could just see the distressed look on his face. I'm
sure he was wondering what he did to deserve two Mormon missionaries
sitting with him for 30 minutes at a Firestone! HaHa. So I went right in
and started asking him questions about his life and we started up a
good conversation. Then Kristen came right in and joined the
conversation. Wow. I can't believe that happened! That is so cool I got
an email telling me that she wanted to be friends on Facebook, but I
obviously can't accept that right h=now since I cant use Facebook. (from
Marilyn... at church Sunday, a bunch of people said, "a Jaxon sighting
at the Firestone!" I was all confused but basically this lady showed up
at the same time Jaxon and his companion were there. She is a friend of
Kerry Anderson who used to live in Tetonia... her husband ran the Badger
Creek Center. Kerry was born and raised in Vancouver, and this girl,
Kristen is her friend. Kristen contacted Kerry about a missionary from a
"small town in Idaho by the Wyoming border" and wondered if this
missionary could be friends with Kerry's son, Parker. She thought is was
too much of a long shot, so she didn't ask the missionary about it.
Kerry told her that yes, Jaxon is friends with Parker, and connections
were made there... cool.)
Yes,
the Raymonds are members and they are awesome. Sister Raymond told me
her maiden name, but I forgot it. JaNes is her first name. Brother
Raymond wants to be buried in the same cemetery as Kimball. He is from
Menan, Does anybody know a Jeff Chatman? He played basketball for BYU in
the 80's. He is a big black guy. His son is playing for them now.
Anyway, Brother Chatman is the assistant ward mission leader in the
Ridgefield ward so I thought that was cool, too.
Well
the highlight of my week was that Cole got baptized! Do you remember
him? I taught him for a little while when I was in Battle Ground. It was
such a good baptism. HIs mom was there who is not a member so that was
sweet. Elder Brase and I taught the restoration right after the baptism
to everybody that was there. I was awesome to teach with Elder Brase
again. Cole has a lot of good fellowship so he has high likelihood to
stay active. The Battle Ground ward has two more baptisms in the next
month scheduled to happen as well.
So
a member in the Ridgefield ward came up to us and said that he has
someone that is going to get baptized in October. His name is Keith. He
came to church yesterday. His wife and son got baptized a few months
ago. Missionaries had been working with him, but then they dropped him.
Brother B. said he took him out to dinner and had a nice chat with him.
He said that Keith wants to be sealed to his family and the first step
is to be baptized. So we will start working with I guess.
We
had a stake priesthood meeting yesterday at 7:00 a.m. It was such a
good meeting. the stake primary president was the first speaker. She was
the only woman in the whole building. Her talk was my favorite, mostly
because she talked about sports! She talked about how passionate sports
fans are for their team. They are always wearing jerseys and they have
posters and they NEVER miss a game. Then she related that to the gospel.
Are we fans of the gospel? If somebody was to walk into our home, could
they tell that we were fans of the gospel? Are we as dedicated to the
gospel as we are to our teams? It was a huge reflector for me. I will
gladly wear a Kyrie Irving jersey, but I will admit that sometimes I get
a little uncomfortable walking into a store and a bunch of eyes turn to
me and my companion wearing missionary attire. It was a good lesson for
me.
Thanks
so much for the email. I am so excited for General Conference this
weekend! It is like a missionary's Super Bowl. I love you all and I hope
you all have a great week.
Love: Jaxon
